Are there any 3DS conversion usage limits?
Yes! Our 3DS conversion tools are 100% free to use. Is it free to use the 3DS conversion tools? If your 3DS model contains textures or references to external texture files, these will be ignored.
No, due to the different methods of assigning textures to a 3D model textures are not currently supported. Are textures supported in the 3DS conversion?
Any color materials contained within the 3D model file will be converted where possible. Our 3DS conversion tool can convert most 3D geometry including mesh vertices and faces with no loss of detail. Some of the limitations of the 3DS file format include: texture names limited to DOS 8.3 filenames, maximum number of vertices allowed in the 3D mesh is capped at 65536 and no support for directional lighting.Ĭurrently our 3DS converter can only convert from 3DS files, our developers are working to allow converting to 3DS files in future versions of our tools. Our 3DS 3D Model/Mesh tool does not support any color material data contained within 3DS files so the converted file will not contain any color information. There are however still many 3D model files circulating in the 3DS format and these can be easily converted using our 3DS conversion tools. The age of the format began to show its limitations many years ago and was replaced by Autodesk when 3D Studio Max was launched. It has been the native file format for Autodesk's 3D Studio from the days of Microsoft's MS DOS. The 3DS format has been a standard 3D format for many years.
